What makes a good youth baseball bat? That’s the question many people ask when shopping for a new bat for their kids. These day’s you can find many bats made from materials such as Aluminum, Composite and wood.

Personally I still prefer the sound of a ball being hit by a wooden bat than the ding a metal bat makes but that’s just my opinion. You may like the sound of ball hitting metal, regardless of how it sounds it’s more important to chose a bat that feels right.

Weight can play an important part when choosing your baseball bat, aluminum and composite bats are usually lighter than wooden bats so bare this in mind when shopping.

Although your child may feel pressured by kids around him to own a brand named baseball bat which then puts pressure on you to pay more than you would like, just remember that it doesn’t really matter who made the bat so long as it feels good and is easy for your child or youth to handle. I’m sure he would be accepted far more by his team mates if he hit a home run with a no name bat rather that strike out with a top of the range brand name bat.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t consider brand name bats, far from it. If you can afford it and you find one your athletic youth loves to swing then go for it.
